The root of this plant native to China contains substances called polysaccharides that stimulate the immune system, promoting tissue regeneration, increases energy, accelerates the metabolism and strengthens the body.

Astragalus is used in the treatment of viral infections, pneumonia, AIDS, abnormalities in blood, genital herpes, chronic fatigue and weakness. 

It can also be indicated to patients with viral hepatitis and peripheral vascular disease. Also used in cases of asthma, peptic ulcer, respiratory disorders, diarrhea and infections in general produced by Diplococcus, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Also used in diabetes, heart disease and Crhohn and Alzheimer's disease.

Other effects:
Stimulates the pituitary-adrenal cortex activity.
Restores the formation of red blood cells in bone marrow.

Glomerulonephritis: Astragalus demonstrated its effectiveness in experimentally induced glomerulonephritis in rats, especially in treating proteinuria. The rats that received high doses of Astragalus showed less proteinuria and pathological changes than  the control group.

Male infertility: Astragalus extract showed a stimulating effect on the number and sperm motility in animal studies.
Lipid: lowers cholesterol, triglycerides, and lipoprotein-a. Diuretic
